80: Maintenance of Telephones.-The lines and instruments were maintained in good order. Two new telephones were installed, and a number of alterations and additions to existing lines carried out.

81. Maintenance of Sewers, Nullahs, etc.-The sewers, stormwater drains, and trained nullahs were cleansed, repaired, and maintained in good condition, the open channels and nullahs being cleansed by the Sanitary Department. Sand deposits as they accumulated were removed. All metal work in connection with the drainage systems was inspected, and, where found necessary, repaired and tarred.

82. Gas and Electric Lighting.-The number of Electric lamps in use at the end of the year, all of which are incandescent, was 212, an increase of 42 over the previous year.

84. Typhoon and Rainstorm Damages.-The heavy rains during the Summer did considerable damage to the fences and roofs of Lai Chi Kok Gaol as well as to the roofs of Rennie's Mills and the Kowloon City Police Station, but other buildings suffered to a lesser degree, the damage to their roofs, windows, jalousies, etc., being of a minor character. Repairs were duly effected.
Several washouts occurred throughout the district, the largest of which was in Yu Chau Street opposite N.K.I.L.'s 473 and 475, necessitating the cutting back of the slopes and removal of the debris.
There were also washouts at the Kau Lung Tong Path, Ngau Chi Wan Gap Road, Po Kong Road, Sha Tin Gap Road, and Tai Po Road.
