Reclamation of Quarry Bay Marine Lot No. 4.-This work was referred to on page 182 of last year's Report.
About 1,100 lineal feet of sea wall was constructed to protect the reclaimed area which covers 3 acres, the filling material for the reclamation was obtained from cuttings south and west of Q.B.I.L. 4 and from the widening of the portion of nullah extending from the east side of Q.B.M.L. 4 to the East side of the Taikoo Sugar Refinery.
The widening of the nullah was included in the contract for the reclamation; the former work necessitated the removal of about 15,000 cubic yards of material, the greater portion of which was very difficult to excavate and consisted of boulders, old nullah walling, and the foundations of demolished houses.
During the heavy rains of the 18th and 19th July, an uncompleted portion of the sea wall, about 150 lineal feet in length, opposite the nullah outfall, was washed away; this damage had been made good by the end of the year.
