Many defective traps, gullies, gratings, etc., were renewed, and a number of old disused drains of various sizes and types destroyed and filled in.
The details of expenditure under this heading were as follows:-
Labour for cleansing operations $ 12,343.55 Repairs 5,587.23 Tools for cleansing operations 792.79 General incidental expenditure 94.72 $ 18,818.29as against $17,851.16 in the previous year.
The total number of lamps in use at the end of the year in the City and its precincts was 1,559, an increase of 30 over the previous year and in the Hill District 222, an increase of 20 as compared with the previous year.
