The Chinese deaths numbered 14,735 (15,801 in 1924).

The Chinese death rate was 19.12 per 1,000.

The Non-Chinese deaths numbered 256 (252 in 1924) including 15 from the Navy and Army.

The death rate for the Non-Chinese civil population was 14.6 per 1,000 (15.06 in 1924).

The nationality of the Non-Chinese deaths was as follows:— British 65, Indian 73, Portuguese 54, Japanese 31, Eurasian 6, Malay 5, American and Filipino 4 each, Annamite and German 2 each, Swiss, Ceylonese, Peruvian, Canadian, Danish, French, Norwegian, Spanish, Jewish and Russian 1 each.

AGE DISTRIBUTION OF DEATHS.

The number of deaths of children under one year of age was 4711 (4735 in 1924) of which 4671 were Chinese and 40 Non-Chinese.

Of these 847 Chinese and 10 Non-Chinese were under one month of age.

The ratio of deaths of infants to the total deaths registered was 31.4 per cent (30.4 in 1924). For the Chinese deaths above the ratio was 31.7 per cent, (30.7 in 1924), while for the Non-Chinese it was 15.6 per cent (14.6 in 1924).

The deaths of children between one and five years of age were 1772 (2372 in 1924) and 1750 Chinese (2352 in 1924).
