18.-REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE.

(1). Appendix N shows under the various heads the revenue collected by the Department during 1925 and also the revenue paid into the Treasury in respect of the Department's contracts. The decrease in the former as against 1924 is chiefly due to less volume of slaughtering during the Strike period.

(2). Appendix O shows under the various heads the Department's expenditure for the year 1925. The increase shown against Motor Lorries and Meat Vans' is due to the introduction of more vehicles to replace Bullocks; against which there is a decrease shown. It is difficult to make any useful comparisons respecting any item owing to the abnormal conditions existing during the Strike period.

19. THE STRIKE.

Reference has been made in several of the preceding sections of this Report to the effects of the "General Strike" which was the most notable feature of the year under review and which perhaps affected the Sanitary Department more nearly than any other branch of the Government.
