In the Port Development Department savings were effected on all items amounting to $47,375.

Certain of the Port Works Extraordinary originally planned for the year under review were not proceeded with and savings were made on all other items with one exception. The net savings amounting to $773,734.

The Post Office savings totalled $111,311—the main factor being the sum provided for payment of Mail Subsidy $86,500 which was not claimed during the year.

The Kowloon Canton Railway made savings amounting to $346,311 chiefly by deferring special expenditure.

5. The Expenditure for the year exceeded the Revenue by the sum of $5,022,452.
