33. Tests of Mortar.-During the year samples were taken from time to time and tests carried out, but owing to the large amount of work being undertaken samples have not been tested as regularly as desired.
34. Testing Drains.-Fees amounting to $370 were collected on account of additional inspections necessitated by carelessness or negligence on the part of the parties concerned in the carrying out of the work.
560 drainage inspections were made during the year.
35. Modifications.-Written modifications of the various sections of the Ordinance were granted in 261 cases under the powers conferred by Section 264b. This shows a decrease of 89 as compared with 1923.
36. Applications and Appeals to the Governor-in- Council under Sec. 265.—Applications for modifications of the various sections of the Ordinance were made to the Governor-in-Council in 19 cases, 16 of which were granted (5 conditionally), the others being refused.
There were three appeals to the Governor-in-Council, one of which was granted, and the remainder refused.
37. Cemeteries.- Work in connection with forming new terraces etc., to afford additional grave spaces was carried out in the following cemeteries :--

Kowloon Central Cemeteries.
