38. The two 15-ton covered goods wagons damaged in the collision on the Chinese Section already referred to were rebuilt, and one 30-ton covered goods wagon seriously damaged in another collision on the Chinese Section was converted into a rail bogie.

39. Fifteen 15-ton covered goods wagons, five 15-ton open goods wagons, and one 30-ton covered goods wagon were given a general overhaul and repainted. Nos. 57, 62, 69 and 70 30-ton open goods wagons were overhauled and painted, and No. 70 which was burnt while on the Chinese Section was fitted with new bodywork. Two 30-ton covered goods wagons were also overhauled and painted.

40. Underframes for fifty-five new 30-ton covered goods wagons were ordered but did not arrive in the Colony before the end of the year. Bodywork for these wagons was put in hand in the Workshops and practically half the woodwork and ironwork was ready by the end of the year.

41. The four new 4-6-4 type side tank locomotives, and one 65-ton wrecking crane, which were indented for in 1922, did not arrive, but it is hoped to obtain delivery of them about the middle of 1924.

42. The Motor Coaches maintained a good service during the greater part of the year, but unfortunately in December the crank shaft of No. 2 coach broke and very shortly afterwards that of No. 1 coach also broke. The fractures occurred at exactly the same place in the respective crank shafts after each had run approximately the same number of miles. The two coaches are now out of action until the new crank shafts arrive from the makers.

43. The road motor department was kept extremely busy throughout the year, and a considerable amount of work on road motor vehicles was carried out for the various Government Departments. A number of new motor trucks were erected, and bodies made for them.

44. Three lathes, one 10½" and two 7¼″ respectively, were installed in the Workshops, and a 250-ton tyre press was ordered in June for the road motor department.

45. In commemoration of the fifth anniversary of "Armistice Day," at 11 a.m. on November the 11th, all traffic on the line stopped, and in the Workshops and elsewhere all motion was suspended for two minutes.

46. The amount provided in the Estimates under Special Expenditure was $465,007.00 and during the year at various times other amounts were voted, making a total of $577,397.00.
