Kowloon Bay, East, Reclamation, formation of Junk Building and Repairing Yards.—As a consequence of the various reclamations now in "Further more particularly the Reclamation at Shamshuipo", necessitating the removal of Junk Building and Repairing Yards, it was decided, on the recommendation of the Town Planning Committee, to undertake the reclamation of about 20 acres at Kowloon Bay East to provide more permanent accommodation for this important industry.
A Contract was let to Messrs. Foo Loong & Co. for $156,475.46, excluding the dredging of trenches for the rubble mound to protect the reclaimed area.
The dredging, which formed a separate Contract, was also let to Messrs. Foo Loong & Co. for $26,415.00. Work under the former Contract could not be commenced until November, owing to negotiations for the necessary resumptions not having been completed.
The guide pile stagings and frames to mark the seaward limit of the work were erected, and the depositing of earth filling was commenced by the end of the year.
