191. Erection of a brick Bungalow at Tai Po for Public Works Department in place of the existing one.—It was not found possible to proceed with this work during the year; there was consequently no expenditure under this heading.

192. Re-construction of certain sheds at Laichikok.—This work, which was referred to in paragraph 176 of last year's Report, was completed during the month of January.

193. Quarters for Inspector of Vernacular Education in the New Territories, Taipo. This was referred to in paragraph 179 of last year's Report.

Further sketch schemes were prepared, but it was not found possible to commence the work during the year; consequently there was no expenditure under this heading.

194. Block House for Police at Castle Peak. This work was referred to in paragraph 181 of last year's Report.

Progress was slow, but, by the end of the year, the building was practically finished.

The structure is of brick, plastered externally in rough cast, roofed with the usual double roll and pan tiling, and provided with a verandah along its front, coolie quarters being erected at the rear.

The accommodation in the main building consists of a dormitory for 6 Indians together with a room for two Sergeants and a cell.

At the latter part of the year, additional married quarters for Chinese Police were put in hand.

A water supply has been provided by tapping the adjoining stream.

195. Public Latrines and Urinals:

Taipo Market Trough Closet.—Plans were prepared and tenders called for this convenience, but owing to the high rates tendered, it was decided not to proceed with the work at present; there was consequently no expenditure under this heading.
