183. Compensation and Resumptions.-This vote provided for the resumption of properties required in connection with development schemes, street widenings, etc.

Particulars of the various resumptions effected during the year and charged to this vote are given in paragraphs 8 and 43.

184. Enlarging Mains to improve the distribution system in Kowloon. This work was referred to in paragraph 170 of last year's Report. The following extensions and improvements were carried out as found necessary and as opportunity occurred :—

(a.) The 6" main along Kowloon City Road was extended for a distance of 2,400 lin. ft. in the direction of Kowloon City, and now joins (b.)

(b.) The 12" main along the new 100 ft. Boundary Road was extended for a length of 3,000 ft. towards Kowloon City, and, at this end, now reaches the South end of Sai Kung Road.

(c.) At the Mongkok end of the new 100 ft. Boundary Road, an 18" main was laid from Taipo Road to Coronation Road, 400 feet in length.

(d.) The Coronation Road 15" main was extended from Fife Street to the new Boundary Road, a length of 1,400 feet, and it now joins the new 18" main referred to in (c.) above.

(e.) A new 12" main, 400 feet in length, was laid along Fife Street, connecting the Shanghai Street and Coronation Road mains.

(f) A new 4" main, 400 feet long, was laid along Chi Wo Street from Gascoigne Road.
