176. Filling in Tidal Flat and cutting down hill between Taikoktsui and Fuk Tsun Heung.—The above work was referred to in paragraph 163 of last year's Report.
In consequence of the recommendations of the Town Planning Committee, the area to be filled in has been extended about 170 lin. feet seawards of the Contract cope line. The guide pile frames were fixed on the new cope line, and the dredging of a trench for the sea-wall rubble mound foundations was commenced towards the end of the year.
The filling in of a further area of about 8 acres of this Tidal Flat extending to the North of Laichikok Road was commenced by the end of the year. A separate Contract was let to Messrs. Kien On & Co. for $52,970.00 for carrying out this work.
Progress was continued with the work of depositing filling material obtained by cutting down the Hills between Taikoktsui and Fuk Tsun Heung, the total quantity of filling deposited during the year amounted to about 85,000 cubic yards.
The re-inforced concrete bridge over the nullah at Shanghai Street was completed by the month of June. An extension to the Ivy Street bridge was also undertaken during the year.
Sixty-three re-inforced concrete piles were purchased from the Military Authorities in December; these piles are to be used for piling the foundations of the railway bridge to be constructed South of Ivy Street.

The earth filling will be obtained from the Chatham Road Extension, which forms part of the contract.
Dolphins marking the line of the sea-walling had been fixed in position by the end of the year.
