VICTORIA HOSPITAL FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN.
REPORT BY DR. J. M. ATKINSON, Medical Officer in Charge.
Staff.--Dr. Atkinson was in charge of the Hospital until the 4th of May, Dr. Bell from May 4th until November 18th when Dr. Atkinson returned to the Colony and resumed charge.
Nursing Staff.-During the year there were seven of the Nursing Sisters and five of the Nurses of the Medical Department on duty for varying periods of the year when required.
Buildings. These were maintained in a good state of repair. The walls of the wards were plastered and re-colourwashed and the bath rooms of some of the private wards tiled.
Admissions, Diseases und Deaths.-There were 219 admissions during 1909 as compared with 234 in 1908. Table I gives in detail the diseases and causes of death during the year, from this it will be seen that there were eleven deaths, a percentage of 5.02 as compared with 3.3 in 1908.
The admissions during the last three years may be classified thus:
1. Age:- 1909 1908 1907 Under 3 years, 82 66 60 Between 3 and 12 years, 24 44 29 } 106 } 110 } 89 Over 12 years, 113 124 199 2. Nationality:- Europeans, Asiatics, 23 26 45 196 208 166 3. They are classified as follows:--
