25.-GAOLS AND PRISONERS.
On the 1st January 1887 there were 612 prisoners in Victoria Gaol; 4,600 were admitted during the year, and 4,541 discharged; the total number of prisoners on the 31st of December 1887 was 632, of whom 49 were Europeans.
The daily average of prisoners was 584, as against 674 in the previous year.
