Whether the right to manage the venue could be fully exercised so that the venue is treated as an individual unit with all the revenue, such as the rental income from the restaurants within the venue, will be credited to the venue instead of being credited to the Council's overall account. Whether more staff on the agreement terms could be employed so as to ensure more flexible recruitment of different talents, such as marketing officers, public relationships officers and arts educationists. Whether, as mentioned earlier, a more specific role could be assigned to the consultant, whether they have the right to vote, and should there be any role difference between them and the Councillors?

Lastly, whether we could remove those executive officers whom we consider to be unsuitable for the posts, that is, whether we have the right of dismissal. This is of great importance to the management of the entire venue.

Mr. Chairman, although I have raised the above questions, I strongly support this first step, because this first step signifies a major change in our thought. I earnestly hope that the Culture Select Committee will be able to accomplish the task. These are my remarks.

Chairman (in Cantonese):—Is there any Member who wishes to speak? If not, may I ask Mr. Wo whether he wishes to exercise his right of reply? Mr. WU please.

Mr. WU CHI-WAI (in Cantonese):—First of all I would like to thank those Members who have spoken. They are all in support of my motion.

Just now Ms. WONG brought to our attention a number of concerns about venue characterization. I think we are all aware of them. In fact, the motion moved today is merely a small stride forward, and I hope that more strides will be forthcoming, including some big ones, so that the Council could achieve venue characterization in word and in deed.

With these remarks, I hope Members will give me their support so that we may take our first stride towards this direction. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.

Chairman (in Cantonese):—The question is now put to the vote. Would Members please vote on their computers? Those who are in favour of the motion please vote for it, those who are not please vote against it while those who wish to abstain from voting please do so. Voting begins.

The question was put to the vote.

The motion was unanimously carried.

(The record of voting on Mr. Wu Chi-wai's motion is at Annex II.)

Chairman (in Cantonese):—The motion is carried with 16 for, 0 against and 0 abstention.
