HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL

ADDRESS BY CHAIRMAN

CHAIRMAN (in Cantonese): -Ladies and Gentlemen, I now call the meeting to order. Before we begin, I would like to ask Members to observe silence for one minute to pay tribute to our former Urban Councillor Dr. Samuel WONG who passed away on 4 June. We are saddened to hear of his death.

Dr. Samuel WONG was an Appointed Member of the Urban Council from 1983 to 1995. During his Council service in the past 12 years, he won the respect of all Members. He sat on various Select Committees during different periods. He was Chairman of the Recreation Select Committee between 1986 and 1989 and Chairman of the Capital Works Select Committee between 1992 and 1993. He had a lot of contributions in leading the development of amenities, cultural and recreational facilities. Dr. WONG was dedicated to the work of the Council and he spared no efforts in serving the community. He was subsequently elected a Legislative Councillor to take up heavy legislature work. His death is indeed a tremendous loss to Hong Kong.

May I ask Members to stand and observe silence for one minute in memory of the late Dr. Samuel WONG? Please stand.

III QUESTIONS

Chairman (in Cantonese):—The first question should be asked by Mr. Chan Choi-hi. As he has not yet arrived, I would invite Mr. Wong Kwok-hing to ask the second question first.

2.

MR. WONG Kwok-hing asked the following question:-‘Since some citizens (especially parents) consider that the age restriction for using the Council's children activities rooms does not take into account the needs of children aged 4 or below, I would like the Chairman of Recreation Select Committee to answer the following questions:

(a) How many indoor children activities rooms does the Council have? How are they distributed? How is the present age restriction determined?
