Conclusion

HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL

Members have also commented on a number of other issues, including the need for:

- expediting computerisation of museum collections

- setting up museums for children

- upholding the freedom of artistic expression

- cutting down recurrent expenditure

- promoting service culture among departmental staff

- introducing the anti-smoking policy in our Council venues

- reviewing the provision for Music Office activities

- introducing legislation on sale and labeling of Japanese raw food in Hong Kong

- promoting the sport of cycling

- increasing the frequency of street cleansing.

I can assure Members again that these and other issues raised will be pursued by the Department in consultation with the Select Committees concerned as appropriate.

Before concluding this speech, I would like to thank all Members, the Department and the Council Secretariat for their contributions and support which have enabled this Council to conduct its business effectively and efficiently.

I shall now put the Motion to the vote. Those in favour please raise their hands.

(1) (a) Mr. LAI HOK-LIM moved the following motion:

'RESOLVED that the Urban Council should extend the opening hours of libraries and museums and set up a users liaison group and an advisory panel on library/museum services to improve the quality of library and museum services.'
