It covers all aspects of the Council's responsibilities from liquor licensing, control of hawkers and environmental health, to swimming pools, gardens, cultural presentations, museums, recreation and sports activities.
In the past year, the Council has made a significant contribution in the Clean Hong Kong Campaign by not only keeping streets clean but also helping to plant more trees and flowers in order to beautify the city areas. On the recreation front, the Council opened two multi-purpose complexes with games facilities, one on each side of the harbour. Work is also pressing ahead in getting the Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom and the Ko Shan Road Open-air Theatre ready for use by early next year.
