the Council yesterday. I shall be leaving this Council a much wiser man because of all the experiences and knowledge I have gained through working with all my friends in the Council. But most of all, Mr. Chairman, I shall cherish the friendships I have made with fellow Council Members and staff of the Council and the Department. (Applause).

FAREWELL TO MR. PETER P. K. NG

CHAIRMAN (in English):- Before we adjourn, it is our turn today to say goodbye to Mr. PETER P. K. NG who has declared that he does not wish to be re-appointed because of business commitments and for personal reasons. Mr. NG has been a very good colleague for 10 years. Indeed, it is exactly 10 years since he was first appointed to this Council. In that period of time, he has served on many Committees and Sub-committees and has been the Chairman or Vice-Chairman of some of them. In particular, we will recall his excellent service as the Chairman of Food and Food Premises Select Committee where he reviewed comprehensively the matters under the jurisdiction of that Select Committee. He is the current Chairman of the Works Planning Select Committee. Members will also recall the great work done by our colleague, P. K., as the Chairman of the Advertisements Sub-Committee. It is a matter of regret to him as it is to us that the work begun about 20 years ago and now concluded so satisfactorily has not yet found its final form in appropriate legislation by the Government. P. K. was also Chairman of the Sub-Committee which drew up the schedule of facilities and the plans of our chamber and offices now under construction. I know you will want me to wish P. K. many years of happiness and prosperity. We will always remember P. K. as a very sincere and genuine colleague. P. K., you have our best wishes. (Applause).

MR. PETER P. K. NG (in English):- Mr. Chairman, I am glad to see that you are in such a good mood today and have noticed that you have never even ruled anybody out of order today. (Laughter) I have a slight suspicion that this is because you know that this is my last attendance in an open meeting of this Council. Being a good friend of yours for so many years, I only know you too well. However, I thank you for your very kind remarks. Mr. Chairman, I advised you almost a year ago that due to my other business commitments, I would have to relinquish my post from the Council at the end of my present appointment. This day has now come. It seems too soon to me. Even after 10 years in the Council, I still feel it was as if I just joined
