The told that of a total of 146 cases, 41 have already collected the compensation, 38 have collected $10,000 and 3 have collected $7,000. The balance outstanding is 105 cases.
MRS. ELLIOTT:- Mr. Chairman, is it correct that we don't have enough shops, seeing that we are now going to put shops out to tender, how can we say we don't have shops?
MR. CHEONG-LEEN:- This is the view of the Joint Management and Policy Select Committee, Mr. Chairman.
MRS. ELLIOTT:- Mr. Chairman, can you tell me to which body I can now refer the people who refuse to accept this breach of, of promise I should say, breach of contract with the pig-breeders. To which committee can it be referred, must it go to a committee of this Council or must it go to some other committee of the Government?
CHAIRMAN:- I would need notice of that question, Mrs. ELLIOTT.
MRS. ELLIOTT:- Well I would just like to follow the case up you see.
MR. CHEONG-LEEN:- Mr. Chairman, Mrs. ELLIOTT could write to the Secretariat or to the Governor-in-Council. If she wished, she could raise this under "Any Other Business" at the next meeting of the Joint Policy and Management Select Committee. However, this is a decision which was taken last year by the Joint Committee but Mrs. ELLIOTT may feel perfectly at liberty to raise this under "Any Other Business" at the next meeting of the Joint Committee.

(9) MR. A. de O. SALES asked the following question:-
Because the 1970-71 surplus has been announced as $618 million, there is interest in knowing how much the Government spent on public entertainment and recreation in the same period. Therefore, will you please state what was spent out of public funds in the same period on
(a) the construction of parks, playgrounds and sports installations;
(b) the construction of facilities and the purchase of equipment for cultural services;
(c) cultural and other entertainment programmes in the City Hall and elsewhere
and what funds have been allocated for such expenditure in 1971-72?

These figures do not include the substantial sums generously donated by the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club or the City Hall Hire Charges which were not levied in respect of direct Urban Council's presentations or joint presentations.
MR. SALES:- Sir, would you please help me to clarify a point? Am I right in saying, Mr. Chairman, from the figures you have given me that Government spent $1.40 approximately per head of population in the year which ended 31st March, 1971?
CHAIRMAN: $1.44 to be exact.
MR. SALES: Mr. Chairman, am I also not right in saying that Government to be exact had a surplus of $154.50 per head of population, per man, woman and child?
