Statement of Aims for 1968

HYGIENE DIVISION

1. (a) To continue recruitment of Student Health Inspectors in batches of 24 per year to undertake a 3-year full-time course of instruction leading to the Diploma for Public Health Inspectors and the General Overseas Certificate and the Diploma in Tropical Hygiene.

(b) To conduct refresher courses in Tropical Hygiene for Health Inspectors who have failed the examination for the Diploma in Tropical Hygiene and who wish to re-sit the examination.

(c) To institute training in instruction techniques for Foremen to enable them to train in turn the staff under their control.

(d) To institute training of minor staff for effectual performance of their duties.

Environmental Hygiene

2. (a) To ensure control of mosquito breeding.

(b) To extend the control of fly breeding in undeveloped areas.

(c) To control insects and animal pests which endanger public health.

(d) To undertake eradication of malarial mosquitoes.

(e) To continue to participate in the drafting of legislation for the management of multi-storey buildings in order to facilitate sanitary control of such buildings and their environs.

(f) To carry out surveys and collate information concerning air pollution caused by food premises.

(g) To advise, and co-operate with, Resettlement Department in matters concerning the environmental hygiene of Resettlement Estates, Squatter Areas and Resite Areas.

(h) To review the values of routine house inspections.

(i) To continue the daily chlorination of public wells.
