MR. CHEONG-LEEN:--In which event Sir, one can only deduce that the service was not as good as it should be, but I do believe that the Commissioner for Resettlement is taking proper steps now to tighten the service which is being provided, and I congratulate him on the efforts he is making.
COMMISSIONER FOR RESETTLEMENT:--Mr. Chairman, I should stress the point that these parts were stolen before the block had even begun to be occupied.
MR. CHEONG-LEEN:--At the same time Sir, to clarify my point, if the maintenance service and the service of the companies was all that good, then they should have had the essential parts available, especially as it would appear from the reply that they were vital to the functioning of the lift service.
COMMISSIONER FOR RESETTLEMENT:--I quite agree.
MR. CHEONG-LEEN:--Thank you.

The answer to the second part of the question is that the Parks, Recreation and Amenities Select Committee decided on 8th July to recommend that the next group of playgrounds to be floodlit should comprise Maple Street Playground and King George V Memorial Park in Kowloon and King George V Memorial Park and Blake Gardens in Hong Kong. It is not possible to give a firm date for this work but we shall do our best to see that a start is made before the end of 1967.
The answer to the third part of the question is that seven portable spectators' stands are actually available for public use at Maple Street Playground. More will be provided in the next few weeks. The question of constructing permanent stands will be looked into by the department and a decision will be taken by the Select Committee subsequently.
MR. CHEUNG WING-IN:--Thank you.
(2) MR. CHEUNG WING-IN asked the following question:
To make full and better use of the playground at Maple Street, Kaifong leaders of the Sham Shui Po district have requested the Civic members of this Council to ask for the flood lighting of this playground and the erection of spectator stands. What flood lighting programme has the Department in hand for our playgrounds in the crowded urban areas?
Has Maple Street playground been included in such programme? If so, when will it be carried out?
Has the erection of spectator stands been considered and when can the residents of Sham Shui Po expect to have them?
MR. A. de O. SALES, CHAIRMAN OF THE PARKS, RECREATION AND AMENITIES SELECT COMMITTEE, replied as follows:
As a member of the Parks, Recreation and Amenities Select Committee, you know that the question of floodlighting is already well in hand. An item for floodlighting games pitches was recently included in the Public Works Programme and design work on the first two projects is well advanced. These two projects, which cover the floodlighting of 7 games pitches at Victoria Park and 6 games pitches at Fa Hui Park, are due to be carried out early next year. Floodlighting of Southorn and MacPherson Playgrounds was done some years ago.
(3) MR. WILFRED S. B. WONG asked the following question:
On January 5th, 1965 the Standing Committee of this Council approved the construction of the North Point Market. Could the Chairman inform me to what extent progress has been made and when can this project be completed?
THE VICE-CHAIRMAN replied as follows:
Since January 5th, 1965, when the Standing Committee of the Urban Council approved the construction of this new type of market in principle, the details have been under discussion in the Urban Services Department, the Public Works Department and the Markets Select Committee. The original sketch plans and schedule of accommodation for this scheme which were based on the normal market stall concept previously used in Government markets have been entirely revised to provide for larger multi-purpose stalls in accordance with the Council's wishes. The revised schedule of accommodation will be submitted shortly to the New Buildings Sub-Committee and, subject to their approval, a revised estimate of cost will be prepared. It is hoped that it will be possible to obtain the Public Works Sub-Committee's approval of the revised estimate not later than the December Review. Allowing one year for the preparation of working drawings and for contract
