HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL
Proposals to reclaim land between Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau were published in the Government Gazette of 30th June, 1960. Objections raised against them will shortly be considered by the Governor-in-Council. If the reclamation scheme is approved, further planning can then be undertaken, but at this stage, I cannot say when it will be possible to provide a children's playground at Ap Lei Chau, since, even if the reclamation is approved, no financial provision has so far been made for the work to be carried out. I can say, however, that the department will keep in view the provision of a playground in this area.
DR. LEE: I would like to ask a supplementary, Mr. Chairman. Is the Chairman aware that this question was raised by me some years ago and that it was accepted in principle by this Council, in answer to that question, that a children's playground should be provided for Ap Lei Chau? Does not the Chairman now agree that the time has come for the district to be provided with this very essential amenity?
CHAIRMAN: Sir, I agree with you that it is a desirable amenity, but I have really nothing to add to what I have already said.

amended by the deletion from the Schedule thereto, of the following:
'28. Roasting of pigs (except the roasting of pigs, otherwise than for purposes of sale, in any building used for purposes of habitation and except the roasting of pigs in any restaurant for consumption therein).'
DR. R. H. S. LEE: In seconding Dr. BELL's motion, Mr. Chairman, I must point out that I previously drew the attention of this Council to the question of the roasting of pigs. It is not an offensive act and I made that remark in connexion with the general regulation that was proposed at the time by a previous Chairman. Now that Dr. BELL, in moving this By-law, corrects this mistake, I have much pleasure in seconding the motion.
MR. WATSON: Mr. Chairman, before the question is put, I would like to congratulate the movers and seconders of the last two motions on their brevity. (Laughter).
The question was put and agreed to.
The Motion was carried.

"RESOLVED that the Public Market (Amendment) By-laws, 1960, be made under Section 80 of the Public Health and Urban Services Ordinance, No. 30 of 1960."
He said: There is nothing I can usefully add to the Explanatory Note at the end of these amending By-laws. I therefore beg to move.
MR. LI YIU-BOR seconded.
The question was put and agreed to.
The Motion was carried.
DR. A. M. S. BELL, Chairman of the Offensive Trades and Slaughter-houses Select Committee, moved the following motion:
