HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL

I do feel that it is essential in delegating to them these powers that they should receive proper instruction in their duties.

CHAIRMAN:-I have not been long enough in this Department to be qualified to answer that question, but I am quite certain that in their training as Health Inspectors they are given instruction in court procedure. I will, however, certainly take note of what you have said.

The question was put and agreed to.

The Motion was carried.

GIFT FROM THE MAYOR OF BANGKOK.

CHAIRMAN:-Before we conclude, I should like to say a few words about the Thai silver bowl, which you see in front of you. As you know, this bowl was offered by His Excellency the Lord Mayor of Bangkok as a symbol of friendship between the Bangkok municipality and this Council and I accepted it on behalf of the Council, at a presentation ceremony held on 27th November. In due course, the bowl will repose in the new City Hall. With your concurrence,

I now propose to write to the Lord Mayor on behalf of the Council and express our appreciation of his gift.

MR. SALES:-Mr. Chairman, will you give us an assurance that in future, in appropriate cases, provision will be made for reciprocating gifts from other municipalities?

CHAIRMAN:--In this particular case I do not think that it would be necessary or right to reciprocate but I am sure that when an appropriate case occurs in the future, there will be no difficulty in obtaining funds with which to buy a gift for presentation from this Council.

ADJOURNMENT.

CHAIRMAN:--That concludes the business of this meeting, Ladies and Gentlemen, and Council stands adjourned until Tuesday, 3rd January, 1961.
