Mr. FUNG Hon-chu raised the question of indoor stadia which was dealt with at length in my reply at the meeting in March of this year. I still question the probable demand but only time will tell. Mr. FUNG also specifically referred to a Convention Hall in the Naval Dockyard area. I should have thought this hardly necessary with the City Hall concert hall in such close proximity, as the latter will be fully equipped for conventions, a fact stressed from the outset by Mr. SALES and others.
Throughout the last year there has been the closest of liaison between the Department and the Superintendent of Crown Lands & Surveys, and the latter has been most co-operative in making available land for development as sitting-out areas, playgrounds and parks, which will, I am sure, be a comfort to Mr. SALES.
Finally, may I thank you all for bearing with our official tirades this afternoon and offer all members of the Council my congratulations on their past achievements and best wishes for the future.
MR. SALES: -Before you put it to the vote may I also avail myself of Standing Order 10(10) second sentence to say that I was labouring under a misapprehension and not the Council. I thought the Council took an interest in Kowloon. Now I realize that the Council does not.
CHAIRMAN:-I am afraid your remark is not very clear but I will take it on trust.
MR. CHEONG-LEEN : I would like to avail myself under Standing Order 10(12). I am using this just in case you will ask me to sit down. It is-
CHAIRMAN: --There is another Standing Order which says that when the Chairman stands-
MR. CHEONG-LEEN:-Could it be put under 10(1) “when a member feels he has been misunderstood”?
CHAIRMAN: (still standing)
The question was put and agreed to.
The Motion was carried.
CHAIRMAN: -Before we conclude the business of this meeting I should like to thank Mrs. K. I. SILVA who has been the "Hansard Reporter" of this Council for the past five years, for the excellent work she has performed on our behalf.
She has set a very high standard indeed in the accurate recording of debates and discussions in this Council and her printed reports will undoubtedly be of great interest to posterity.
She is leaving us at her own request in order to devote more time to her husband's business and I am sure that we all wish her every happiness in future.
She will be succeeded by Miss Zarina MINU who is a member of the Urban Services Department staff.
ADJOURNMENT.
CHAIRMAN:-That concludes the business of this meeting. Council stands adjourned until Tuesday, 7th June.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS.
MR. BERNACCHI: Under Any Other Business I feel that I should apologize to this Council for not having the Report of the Select Committee on Air Conditioning before them this afternoon. I would like to assure them that the Report will be tabled at the next meeting.
