HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL
DR. A. M. S. BELL:- Mr. Chairman, on behalf of Mr. Bernacchi, who will certainly be with you, and the other Reform Club Members who we hope will also be with you at the next meeting, we would like to say how very sorry we are that Philip Au, who has been one of us, is not standing for re-election this time, and will not be serving on this Council any further. I think everybody appreciates the enormous amount of work that Philip has contributed to the Council and appreciates the great link he has been with the general public in bringing forward many of their points of view and problems to this Council where they have been solved. I think we will miss him very much and I wish him, on behalf of all the Reform Club elected members, a very happy future wherever he goes.
MR. LI YIU BOR:- On behalf of Dr. Woo, Mr. Cheong-Leen and myself, I should like to associate myself with your remarks and those expressed by Mr. Fung and Dr. Bell on the retirement of Philip Au from this Council.
For six full years Mr. Au has devoted himself to the work of this Council, even, I am afraid, at the expense of his own personal affairs. During the whole period he has co-operated fully with all other members and with the staff of the Urban Services Department. We admire him for his public spiritedness, and we think the public owes him a debt of gratitude for his selfless and useful service.
I am very happy to say also that he has worked very well together with the three of us from the Civic Association, and we with him. We are indeed sorry to lose him, but we sincerely hope that Mr. Au will be able to serve the public interest in other fields of public service outside the Urban Council.
As I understand that Mr. Au will soon be leaving for America on a short trip, may I take this opportunity to wish him and Mrs. Au every success and happiness in the future.
