HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL

DEPARTURE ON LEAVE OF CHAIRMAN.

CHAIRMAN :—That concludes our business—

MR. BERNACCHI :-Mr. Chairman, before the business is concluded, may I rise to say that I believe this is the last occasion that you will be in the Chair before you return from your leave. It is with much regret that my colleagues and myself heard that you were proceeding on leave, but we cannot grudge you a very well deserved one, we wish you a very happy holiday with your family and we hope that you may return to the Chair of this Council with renewed vigour to tackle the very large tasks which, as my Friend Mr. Kwok Chan has already pointed out, lie before us in the coming year. (Applause).

MR. KWOK CHAN :-May I associate myself with the remarks made by Mr. Bernacchi in his expression of good wishes to you, and I join him in wishing you a very happy vacation. (Applause).

MR. LI YIU BOR:-I beg to associate myself with the sentiments and remarks expressed by the earlier speakers on your impending departure for England on furlough. In our short experience in this Council we have learned to appreciate the sincere, efficient and tactful way in which you have handled all the business of the Council. We appreciate, Sir, all the more the guidance and assistance which you rendered us when we first served on the Council. We shall miss you, Sir, but we are happy that you will have an able successor in the person of Mr. Teesdale. We hope that you will shortly return to Hong Kong to take up your duties as Chairman of this Council and I take this opportunity of wishing you and Mrs. Holmes a very safe voyage home, a pleasant and restful holiday, and a speedy return to the Colony and to this Council in particular. (Applause).

CHAIRMAN :-Mr. Bernacchi, Mr. Kwok Chan, Mr. Li, Gentlemen, I thank you very much for your kind words and good wishes which I very deeply appreciate.
