Emperor holding Audience in the Palace, Peking:

A remarkable painting of the Emperor Kuang-hsu (1875-1908) holding audience and receiving high officials -red-button men, etc.).

Chinese river scene showing the bursting of a dam or dyke: The scene is said to be in the San-vui district of the Canton delta (but no proof of this is obtainable here at the moment). Date uncertain: probably about the middle or later in the 19th century. Possibly the best painting in the collection: undoubtedly painted by a highly skilled artist. Framed: oil

Hongkong: Charming and rare hand-coloured aquatint engraving on a miniature scale of the Island and harbour of Hongkong. Circa 1843? Drawn by C. Graham and engraved by A.H. Payne. Date uncertain but Graham is known to have been in China about 1841 or thereabouts. Published by "The London Printing and Publishing Co." (No date). Framed aquatint: 9" x 72"

Canton Factories:

"New Factories": (i.e. those built after fire. Circa 1847-1850). The Church is shown and this was built about 1847: there is no church in the views of the 'old' Factories. The foreshore is deeper proving reclamation and bunding of foreshore: foreshore is also planted with trees, etc. A good painting of the period showing the Factories as they really were. Native artist.
