Shanghai: Another view of the Bund from a building flying air American flag to the British Consulate-General at right. This is a rather crude picture and not anything like as good as either No.38 or 45 q.v. Native artist. (This picture need not be considered as part of the collection which has already a fine picture of Shanghai).
Framed: oil.
30" x 17".
(A pair) Dane's Island and Whampoa anchorage: (53)
Entrance to Tiger's Mouth (Bocca Tigris) & Forts: (54) An interesting little pair of views well painted. Native artist. Framed: oil. 17" x 10" (each).
Hongkong: An early view of Hongkong: well painted with interesting details of shipping and shore (steamers & sailing ships: No peak railways yet). Native artist.
Framed: oil.
34" x 17".
Chinese lady: Portrait of: It may be possible to determine from the costume what type of lady this is, and where she lived. This picture was purchased by me at Shanghai some 30 years ago: possibly by an European artist. Date uncertain.
No frame: oil.
27" x 21".
Chinese village scenes: (a pair).
view of market place:
(b) view of village fair (tight-rope-walking, etc.)
This fine pair of oil paintings are attributed to George Chinnery, R.H.A. They are in a different style to some of his other paintings but are similar in style to those of his reproduced in the 'Chater Collection' (page 266 (Nos.40 & 41).
Framed: oil. (Both: 24" x 18").
Snow scene outside Chinese city: This interesting picture shows a scene where a lady (on horseback) and others are taking farewell of each other from the inn on the left. The scene must obviously be in the north of China (on account of snow). It is supposed to be a representation of a scene in some well known Chinese novel but I have not yet been able to identify it. It is extraordinarily large.
Chinese scenes: A pair. View of the river near Heungshan between He ungshan and Canton.
These two pictures are two of the best in the collection. They are oil paintings by George Chinnery, in which he shows his lightest touch, of such scenes as he loved to draw and paint.
No.60 is of a view said to be on the river near Heungshan and Canton. A junk anchorage and an old fort on left.
No.61. is a view of a small customs or Likin station on the river with a native-style gunboat anchored alongside and junks sailing on the river close at hand.
Framed: oils (a pair) by George Chinnery, R.H.A (Each) 24" x 18".

Old" factories Canton: An interesting pair of oil paintings of the "old" factories on fire and the scene after the fire.
This somewhat lurid view shows the factories well alight and burning.

No.64.
