We have been informed by departmental officials
that no more claims and adjustments in respect of years
prior to 31st March, 1950, are anticipated.
The operating surplus for the year was
$21,672,122,26 against which has been set off an adjust-
ment of $1,654.82 (net) in respect of years prior to
31st March, 1950, leaving a balance available for appro-
priation of $21,670,467.444.
GENERAL COMMENTS
During the first six months of the year under
review the greater part of the entries in the Japan
Trade Section journal and general ledger were of neces-
sity completed by our staff. Apart from this fact, and
our comments above, we wish to state that the books of
account for the year ended 31st March, 1951, have been
satisfactorily maintained and we wish to express our
appreciation of the courtesies and facilities extended
to our staff during the course of our examination.
Subject to the foregoing observations, we have
to report that, in our opinion, the attached Balance
Sheet properly exhibits the state of affairs of the
Supplies Branch as at 31st March, 1951, and the related
Accounts properly disclose, in summarised form, the re-
sults of the transactions of the Branch for the year
ended that date, according to the best of our informa-
tion and the explanations given us and as shown by the
books of the Branch.
We have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient servants,
