Apart from the reason mentioned by Mr. Anderson above, I imagine that the chief reason for asking for these Accounts, was in order that the Secretary of State should be kept informed from year to year of the financial operations of this important department.

In view of the considerations mentioned by Mr. Anderson, and as the accounts and the auditors'report thereon are laid annually before the Legislative Council,it seems, to my mind, unnecessary to subject them to any examination in the Colonial Office, beyond a perusal of the Auditors' reports and the Governor's comments thereon, if any.
