As you will probably know, I am expecting

to leave in a week's time for the Far East. I

had great hopes of being able to include Hong

Kong in my tour and was looking forward to

meeting all those in that Colony who are

tackling so resourcefully a very difficult and

complex situation. I deeply regret that the

short time at my disposal will not now allow me

to visit Hong Kong and I am therefore all the

more grateful, Mr. Chairman, for your kindness

in inviting me to be the guest of honour at

your luncheon today, and for giving me the

opportunity of meeting our friends from Hong

Kong who have come to Englang-to show us what,

despite difficulties and troubles, the Colony

has to contribute to world trade. And it is

no small contribution.
