Dear Sir,

B/BH 3

re Dixon -v- Jones.

34. Hyde Road...

(ADJACENT DENDY ROAD}

Paignton.

2nd February 1950.

We are acting for Mr. V. C. Dixon as Plaintiff in the above action which concerns an undated cheque handed over by the Defendant Jones to our client in exchange for military yen during the internment of both parties in the Hong Kong Internment Camp during the recent war. The Defendant's Solicitors are relying upon the defence that the recovery of the money was made invalid under an order made by the Hong Kong Government under Order GN No.5 of September 2nd 1945 issued under the Defence Regulations. We are anxious to establish whether or not this Order is still in force as our information states that the moratorium was lifted in 1948.

We referred the question to our bankers, Lloyds Bank Ltd., Paignton, and the bank's Head Office infomed us that they have communicated with you by telephone.

We should be very much obliged if you could possibly supply us with a copy of the Order and we should be glad if you could advise us whether its provisions have lapsed; if so the date of such lapse.

The case is due for hearing on the 15th instant so that we should much appreciate an early reply.

A. J. Fairclough, Esq., The Colonial Office,

(Hong Kong Department), Church House,

Great Smith Street, London, S. W. 1.

Yours faithfully,

Harlyn Taylor & Reek
