I am directed by Mr. Secretary Griffiths to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 5th May about a cheque given to you in exchange for yen by Dr. R.C. Jones in Stanley Internment Camp, Hong Kong.

Mr. Griffiths appreciates your difficulties in this matter but regrets that, as Dr. Jones is no longer a member of the Colonial Service, it is not possible to do more to assist you in pursuing the debt than to forward to Dr. Jones' last known address any letter that you may wish to send to him. Should you wish to write to Dr. Jones your letter should be addressed to him c/o this Department and clearly marked with the reference number of this letter.
