meet the situation would be beyond the resources of the Colony. With this idea in mind one new clinic has been opened this year and a further new clinic may be built within the next 12 months. This projected new clinic is intended as a replacement for the clinic at present in use which is unsuitable for the purpose and inadequate in size. This new building will be provided and financed by the Hong Kong Government.
A new clinic for follow-up work has just been opened by the Hong Kong Anti-Tuberculosis Association for the purpose of follow- ing up
cases treated in their own institution. This building will in addition provide new headquarters for the Association and will also act as a propaganda centre.
Employees in the Tuberculosis Service.
All individuals are tuberculin tested before employment and only positive reactors are accepted. Negative reactors are directed elsewhere as no facilities at present exist for BÜG administration,
All staff are X-rayed at intervals of 3 months and monthly records of body weight are taken, Every effort is made to reduce the necessary contact between staff and patients to a minimum and all personnel working in the tuberculosis service are provided with one pint of milk per day which they are expected to consume on the premises. Should any employee in the Tuberculosis Service contract tuberculosis, the Government has agreed that the disease will be considered attributable to service with special provision for hospital maintenance and resulting disability.
