I have the honour to forward this my application to you asking that i may be considered for a grant having

in Hong Kong.

suffered very losses

I have been informed by the Hong Kong Government that no claims will be recognised.

The position is this Gentlemen, we are an old couple myself 74 the wife a permanent cripple who were invalided here, and in view of our age advised to remain here as the conditions at home were very bad.

My loss in H.K. was the whole of the contents of a first class guest house valued at £2400.0.0 which was our sole income for our old age.

The house contained 10 large rooms fully furnished. All clothing, Silver Ware etc.

I was locally employed in the H.K. Shanghai Bank and they gave me a small grant which we spent on clothing etc. having nothing when we arrived here. I am at present living in a flat and let one room at £2.0.0 per week which helps to pay the rent of £3.0.0 weekly.

We are not allowed Old Age Pension here but we receive an invalid pension of one pound per week each and with my military pension of 2/9 per day find it more difficult than ever.

My bank balance was smashed up some weeks ago due to the wife having a major operation which cost me 20 weeks £148.0.0 and my bank balance at present is now 15 pounds.

I have a very difficult time tying to keep things going especially as the wife is almost bed ridden and i very humbly ask that we may both be considered in our very difficult position.
