Dear Sir,
War Damage in Hong Kong
In reply to your letter of 14th December, 1948 addressed to Trading With The Enemy Department regarding your claim in respect of property lost or damaged in Hong Kong as a result of the war I am to refer to the statement issued by the Government of Hong Kong, a copy of which is enclosed. As explained in the statement, the Hong Kong Government have recommended that no compensation should be paid for war damage. In these circumstances it is regretted that no payment can be made from Hong Kong Government Funds in respect of general war damage compensation claims. The statement is of course not concerned with any claims where a legal liability may be involved and any such claims should be referred direct to the Government of Hong Kong.
Your change of address has been noted.
Yours faithfully,
R.M. ogden, Esq., 17 Mount Street,
Coogee, Sydney, N.S.W.
Australia.
L. BISHOP.
