Loss of Personal Chattels in the Far East.
You will remember that we discussed per 'phone the other day the question as to whether the Hong Kong Government would be prepared to grant assistance in certain hardship cases. The cases concerned British Subjects, formerly resident in Hong· Kong, who had not returned to this country after the war, but
had who have settled in Australia and who were, therefore, not eligible to apply for a payment under the Extended Far Eastern Private Chattels Scheme.
You have already approached the Hong Kong Government

could not do anything in that case. However, you thought that it was just possible that they might be prepared to assist in other cases, and I, therefore, attach copies of correspondence which this Department has had with the following persons. You will find this correspondence self-explanatory:-
