Claim by Kowloon Canton Railway

As indicated in paragraph 6 of our confidential Signal 821/I of L(0) dated the 22nd March, 1950, we are not certain as to the extent of the information you possess regarding the above claims. It may be that you are aware of the negotiations that have been in progress since April 1947, and which have been carried out mainly through the Governor of the Colony of Hong Kong and the Colonial Office in London.

To summarise briefly, the Governor of Hong Kong forwarded to the Colonial Office a despatch on the 10th April 1947, enclosing claims against the War Office in respect of certain materials and charges which had originated owing to requisition on behalf of Service Departments prior to the Japanese

occupation.

The claims resolve themselves into three categories:-

i) A claim by the Chinese Government Ministry of

Communication. This was in respect of their Railway material requisitioned in the British Section of the Kowloon-Canton Railway and shipped to the M.E. when
