Dear Sir,
Re:- War Damage Claim ex HONGKONG
I have the honour to in- form you:- After I was released from P.O.W. Camp in Hong Kong, sometime in 1946 I was invited by the Colonial Secretariat,HongKong, to submit my Claim for war damage, and filled in several large forms which we were told were sent home to you.
Although I have heard the War Damage commission in Malaya has practically completed its task, and residents have received compensation, I have not heard a word, and no results whatever from claims forwarded at your request from HongKong, and I would be glad to know what the possibilit- ies are of HongKong Residents who were mobilised for many years receiving an acknowledgement of our claims?
For your information there is a HongKong Residents Association in Sydney which is submitting to you through the British Minister in Canberra,a full list of our claims, but as I have no copy of my original claim sent to you, I would be very grateful to you if you could let me have a copy of my original claim in detail so that I can resubmit through local channels. If however you are already dealing with my original claim I shall be glad of an acknowledgement of it.
I have the honour to be Sir,
Private/GAH
Your obedient Servant,
Gilbert Harriman
