In reply to your letter of the 10th

October, regarding your clais in respect of property lost or damaged in Hong Kong as a result of the war, I as directed by Mr. Secretary Griffiths to refer to the statement issued by the government of Hong Kong, (a copy of which is enclosed). As explained in the

statement, the Hong Yong Government have recommended that no compensation should be paid for war de nage, In these circumstances it is regretted that no pay sent can be made fron Hong Kong Government Funds in respect of general war dansge compensation claims. The statement is of course not concerned with any clai is where a legal liability may be involved and any such clains should be referred direct to the Government of Hong Fong.

2. With regard to your request for a copy of your clain which you submitted in 1946, I am to explain that all such claims, which were first of all registered with the Trading with the

ne y Department of the Board of Trade, were transferred to Hong Kong in 1948.
