Dear Mr. King,

May I refer you to my letter of the 5th July 1950, to Mr. Slade, which concerned an appeal by Mr. M.P.Rodgers of Dublin against the Board's decision as to his non-eligibility for a payment under the Chattels Scheme.

We have now received the enclosed letter from Mr. Rodgers. Ho is apparently under the impression that we are concerned with the

administration of the Scheme, and his letter is, in effect, an appeal to our Secretary of State, in his capacity as the minister charged with the responsibility for Colonial Affairs to effect some change in a matter affecting former Colonial servants. I feel that it would, in the

circumstances, be preferable that a reply should come from us, and I am therefore enclosing a draft for your concurrence. If however you consider that the answer would more properly come from the Board, please let us know.

As Mr. Rodgere specifically asks if he would be eligible for a payment if he took up residence in Northern Ireland, I have ventured to answer that particular point also.

J.F.Hing Esq.,

Board of Trade.
