Your Ref. 54439/2/51

Dear Mr. Hall,

-108K

LONDON.E.C.2.

17th May, 1951

Thank you for writing on 11th May about the land at Hong Kong known as the New Kowloon Inland Lot No. 3556.

I now have pleasure in confirming that my Company accepts the termination of the contract in the terms set out in your letter, and I should be grateful if you would kindly convey this decision to His Excellency. May I take this opportunity on behalf of my Company of saying how much we appreciate your assistance in this matter: perhaps when advising the Governor of our decision you would be good enough also to express our appreciation to him.

As far as the Crown Rent for 1950 is concerned, we did in fact pay this in full by cheque to your Cashiers Department at No. 4 Millbank and our covering letter was dated 15th March, 1951. However, presumably you will wish to include the Crown Rent paid for the second half of 1950, namely HK$ 10,519, with the amount you propose to return to us.

We would prefer payment to be effected to us here in London, but if you so wish, we would agree to the money being paid to our Bankers in Hong Kong. In the latter case the amount should be credited to the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China Ltd. and perhaps you would let me know before this is done so that I may inform the Bank accordingly.

In conclusion I assume that this exchange of letters and the refund of premium being made will be accepted by Government as formal termination of the contract, but I would be grateful if you would confirm this.

H.P. Hall, Esq.,

Colonial Office,

The Church House,

Great Smith Street, S.W.1.

Yours sincerely,

GT.U. Archu.
