Dear Barrow,

I am sorry not to have replied to your letter of the 1st December about obtaining . Brunt's services in connection with the fertilizer factory.

He is

i.e. £250

The Hong Kong despatch did not arrive until much later. You will however be glad to hear that Herklots and I saw Brunt this morning and he is quite keen on the job. prepared to go out as soon as he is required but will have to

I am sending an official give one month's notice to his firm. telegram off today and as soon as long Kong indicate what terms shall be offered we can go ahead. Brunt's own suggestion is a retaining fee at the rate of 1,500 per annum for a two months visit, plus passages and he would prefer free board and lodging plus a reduced subsistence allowance, as he has heard that the normal subsistence allowance is not

The terms seem sufficient to cover food and accommodation! reasonable. I do not know whether he should be offered a clothing allowance as I doubt very much if he has any tropical clothing but that of course depends on the time of year he comes out. At present he could hardly leave before 1st April.

J. Barrow, Esq., 0.B.E.,

District office,

Yours sincerely,

New Territories,

Hong Kong.
