Proposed Amendment and Amplification of the Trade Unions and Trade Disputes Ordinance 1948.

Interpretation.

"Registrar" means the person for the time being appointed by the Governor under section 6 by name or by office to be or to act as Registrar of Trade Unions and includes any per- son appointed by the Governor to be or to act as Deputy "egistrar or Assistant Registrar of Trade Unions.

Addition to section 6: "and one or more Deputy and Assistant Registrars".

New subsections to section 11.

(iii) that the union is being used for any unlawful

purpose or for any purpose inconsistent with its rules;

(iv) that the constitution of the trade union or its

executive is unlawful.

New subsection 3 to section 13.

(3) No person shall be or act as an officer of a trade union who has been convicted by any Court of larceny, theft, extortion or intimidation, or of any other offence whose conviction, in the opinion of the Governor in Council, renders him unfit to be an officer of a trade union.

New Section.

"No Government officer or servant shall join or be a member of any trade union, the membership of which is not confined exclusively to Government officers or servants.

Provided that the Governor in Council may by notifica- tion in the Gazette exempt from the provisions of this section, either wholly or subject to such conditions as in such notification specified, any Government officer or servant or any categories, classes or discriptions of Government officers or servants.

No trade union whose membership is confined to Government officers or servants shall federate with, affiliate to or act in conjunction with any organisation whose membership is not so confined."

New Section.

An injunction restraining any unauthorised or unlawful expenditure of the funds of a registered trade union may be granted on the application of any five persons having a sufficient interest in the relief sought or of the Registrar.

New Section.

The account books of a registered trade union, all supporting documents and papers and a list of the members thereof shall be open to inspection by any person having an interest in the funds of the trade union at such times as may be provided for in the rules of the trade union, and by the Registrar at any reasonable time.
