(c) Feeder Roads: Surveys will be undertaken in the coming weeks to enable an estimate to be given of the cost of construction of certain roads. number of roads to be constructed will be dependent on the number of piers which it will be possible to erect with £50,000, if this sum is ultimately granted, for the reason that in some areas, unless the services rendered by public ferries, fisheries launches, etc., can be improved by the provision of a pier, there is no point in constructing a road in the immediate hinterland. As far as the mainland portion of the New Territories is concerned, the road situation has been much improved by the considerable amount of road construction undertaken by the Public Works Department for the military authorities, and our main concern at present is the improvement and development of the economy of the islands.
