(2) That freedom loving Chinese look to the National Government in Formosa, which is recognised by the United Nations, as the legitimate authori- ty in China vis-a-vis Communism to which we cannot submit.
(3) That we in Hong Kong on the fore front facing Communism believe that this Colony has adequate defence preparation s. However, the security of the Far East depends largely on the National Government in Formosa which has 600,000 troops together with a navy and air force as a decisive and stabilis- ing factor. If the United Kingdom resumes diplomatic relations with Formosa, the security of Hong Kong will be further assured.
We hope the foregoing points will have the sympathetic and serious con si deration of H.M. Government, in which we attach great hopes and defer-
ence.
