RECOMMENDATIONS
PRACTICAL GEOLOGY
BUILDINGS
In the New Building there is no room available large enough for classes in Practical Geology. An excellent room for this purpose could be provided by extending one section of the Mezzanine Floor in the Peel Laboratory. The cost of this extension should not exceed
$15,000 to $20,000.
It is recommended that a room be provided for classes in practical Geology by 1952.
30. SURVEYING CAMP
It has been approved in principle by the Council that a Surveying Camp be built and negotiations are in train with Government to acquire a site and derelict building on Lantau Island.
The Council (in 1941) had agreed to the erection of a bungalow near Fanling and the purchase of the land required. Negotiations are now under way for acquiring from Government an old house and some acres of land on Lantao Island. The estimated cost of establishing the proposed 'Surveying Camp' varies from $30,000 to $40,000 according to whether we decide to renovate and extend the present building or put up a new one.
