To provide increased accommodation for the Department of Pathology in a location most suited for its work, and to provide a Clinical Lecture Theatre large enough to hold Clinical classes in the Faculty of Medicine.
With an admission enrolment of between 90 and 100 medical undergraduates yearly, accommodation at all stages of medical education has been found inadequate. The present Pathology Building, erected over 30 years ago, is far too small for its present function; and the Clinical Lecture Theatres provided by the Government in its Queen Mary Hospital cannot begin to accommodate the present Clinical classes. As there is no space for expansion on the present Pathology site, this scheme for provision of a new building to house Pathology and Clinical lecture units gives an opportunity to move the Pathology unit from the centre of the University to a site adjacent to the Queen Mary Hospital, for enhanced efficiency and great saving in time and labour of both staff and medical undergraduates.
The possibility of including in this building, units for Out-Patient Practice is being investigated. Cost of this is included at 7 below.
Division of Costs:
Cost of provision of such accommodation is to be divided equally between funds allocated under C.D. & W., and C. & M.E.S. votes, as detailed in the tel. 1900 of 1950 from the Secretary of State for the Colonies to the Governor Hong Kong,
Administrative & Financial Control:
The University of Hong Kong has been recognized as an administering authority for the purpose of administrative and financial control of monies allocated from the C.D. & V. fund. Secretary of State tel. 1900 of Dec. 22, 1950, refers.
