Under the direction of the University's Professor of Civil Engineering and under special Permit from the Public Works Department to use steel with increased working stresses, steel bars for reinforcement are to be twin- twisted, for an estimated saving of 50% of steel on all reinforcement work, by raising the yield point.
Execution & Technical Supervision:
Planning and supervision is in the control of the University's Professor of Architecture, who is Consultant Architect to the University, with the assistance of the University's Professor of Civil Engineering, who is Consultant Engineer to the University. The Consultant Architect is responsible to a Building Committee (a committee of the University Council) including in its constitution members of the local architectural and engineering professions, both Government and independent, laymen, and representatives of the University Council.
For this work the Consultant Architect has also the assistance of a local firm of Architects, as Associated architects, his own draughtsman staff, and a suitable Inspector of Works who is on the University staff.
Basis of Application:
This application is based on a report, I.U.C./L.18/50, of two representatives of the Inter- University Council for Higher Education in the Colonies as a consequence of a Visitation in April, 1950. The report was adopted by the Inter-University Council for Higher Education in the Colonies.
